American Airlines flights are delayed a lot but overall the airport is good.
Note-American Airlines canceling the Phoenix route as of May 5, 2026. Leaves only twice a week flights to Phoenix on Allegiant as only regular commercial flights 🥺. Original post: Flying as good as it gets in Santa Maria. New route to Phoenix is a travel game changer for this town. Imagine flying out of Santa Maria to London with only one connection. Success will probably ruin the cozy charm of SM. Enjoy it while you can.

No staff to help at counters, one TSA was rude and useless. The security guard tried to help but really couldn't answer any questions or provide assistance.

Do not fly from here if you want to be on time for any connecting flights. The staff manning the ticket booths and the TSA are all really friendly and helpful and I give good rating to them. HOWEVER, I have flown three times from here and EVERY time has been delayed due to “mechanical” issues. They didn’t even have him there one time and we had to wait in him while sitting on the plane. I was forced to miss important connecting flights and it caused a lot of headache and for me to be late for meetings. Completely unacceptable how they manage the mechanical side of things. Additionally, they are not staffed for any real issues. We were stuck waiting for a mechanic for more than two hours. As in waiting for them to arrive, let alone do the work needed. I’ve never seen such issues in my life and I travel regularly. I will not be flying out of here again if avoidable and recommend that anyone flying for business or otherwise avoid this airport at any cost.
